Thoughts on France

Posted by in Travel

I’ve been back from France for a week now. I can’t believe we’ve been home for a week already but it’s been that long. Looking back on our time there it seems so long ago already. As always, I miss the feel of travelling, not working, being in a new place, exploring every nook and cranny to see what surprises await. France was no different. We only spent time in Paris and Marseille and I know we missed out a lot of the French countryside, mountains and other places but…read more

Vive La France!

Posted by in Travel

Ever since I got home from Australia and New Zealand in 2009, I was itching to travel again. I had only just got a taste of travelling and wanted to experience something farther away from the Canadian culture I see every day. I’ve had my eyes on Thailand and Chile for some time now. It seems like half the location independent lifestyle designers are currently in Thailand and it would be a blast to cruise through and see what that crew is up to. And I’ve heard nothing but good…read more

4 months in Australia and New Zealand; A Year Later

Posted by in Travel

I realized today that I never did a roundup post of all the posts while I was away in Australia and New Zealand last year. Looking back I wrote way more than I thought. Having nothing else to do in the hostels during the evenings gave me some ¬†good time to write. I wish I had kept up that momentum when I got home. Having to hunt for a job to pay off the trip put a bit of a dent in the free time I had. So here’s the…read more

Foto Friday: Gold Tree, Sydney Australia

Posted by in Foto Friday

I spent a lot of time in Sydney wandering through the streets, parks and shops looking for interesting things to photograph and buy for souvenirs. One of the more random items was this metallic tree that was on the side of the road near Market City. I ended up photoshopping a bit to make it a little more interesting.

Coming Home From Australia and New Zealand

Posted by in Travel

I’ve started this post on the eve before I fly home to Canada from New Zealand. I’ve spent three months in Australia and one in New Zealand and while I’m excited to head home to my car, my family and my bed, I’m sad this trip is coming to an end. Having only driven and flown to a few place in North America previous to this trip, I didn’t have much experience in overseas extended travel. I was about as green as they come when I landed in Sydney four…read more

Walking on Thick Ice

Posted by in Travel

One of the items on my “must do” list for New Zealand was hiking on a glacier. We headed down to Franz Josef from Greymouth and arrived in time for a half day hike on the glacier. The cheaper option was a walk to the terminal face of the glacier and up the ice a bit. The other was a heli-hike that flew up higher on the glacier, returning you to town after a couple hours on the ice. I had originally planned to only do the half-day hike since…read more

Turbo New Zealand

Posted by in Travel

So I’m now in New Zealand. The flight from Australia was uneventful and thankfully considerably shorter than the one home is going to be. It almost felt short! I knew New Zealand was going to be wet but didn’t realize it would be absolutely pouring when I got into Auckland. For the couple of days I was there it rained and rained and rained. I wouldn’t have minded the rain so much if I had an easier way to get around. Walking in the rain with limited ability to dry…read more
